Hello again fellow investor!
I have some breaking news. It’s news that many of you will not like but I hope you will come to respect. I’ve done a lot of thinking over the past few months, and I’ve decided that this whole mix of real estate investing, financial independence, and American capitalism in general is not for me. And if I play one more game of softball or take one more vacation, I’ll probably shoot myself. Franky, I’m fed up, and I feel that the madness most stop. I must leave behind this world of money-making and care-free spending that I’ve created for myself if I ever wish to get centered.
So I’ve already made plans to take drastic measures. And take them I will. On this day next week, I will leave the United States for good, and with it, all of my material possessions, including all of my cash, which I have already donated to charity. My new life will begin next week as a worker on a banana plantation in South America … the country of Bolivia to be exact. For 60 hours per week, I will pick bananas and help with the other duties that the plantation owner assigns to me. I will spend another 20 hours per week in deep meditation at the nearby meditation center. And for once, I will re-claim my peace and serenity.

I don’t have anything else to say, so I’ll close now. I hope your investing brings you all the riches you ever desire. But as for me, I have chosen a different path.

I like it. At first i thought it was just sleazy attempt to get my attention-but if you can come up with something like that then you don’t need meditation no more and you already are at Nirvana. But I recommend you do the stint on the banana plantation. It will do your body good.-just kidding -(belated April’s fool day joke)

Well Doug , You had me goin’ there for awhile, I was sure that you were going to a beautiful place in the sun. I was hoping that you would find peace and sernity. Believe me I have had a similar thought myself. I don’t know about Bolivia, but if your looking for a good get away place to take a vacation. I suggest you go to Belize and visit a couple of friends of mine, who just built the most beautiful Green Eco lodge in the south Belize in the jungle. Ever tried going to Brazil…There they have those tiny though very delicious mini-bananas….and you don’t even need to pick’em, just buy for pennies from the many vendors off their highways…
Rio is very relaxing during the day, and exotic at night- recommend it to anyone.

I knew from the jump that your story was an AFD prank. Anyone who has the smarts and talents that you have, concerning real estate and investing in real estate, is not going to just up and abandon a gold mine to go pick bananas in some remote region in South America. I might be wrong about the possibility within the realm of possibilities……but I don’t think so.

Doug, I was happy to hear that you found your path when I was reading. And I was thinking that it was a humble and noble gesture to donate all your loot to charity. Afterall, who needs it more and can help lots at one time with your donations. Then I thought, it would have been nice to have a contest to give some to your supporters, but that is what most would do for recognition. And you sounded like you wanted to be annonymous. Then I seen you were pulling a prank and thought, huh? Nice trick, but I like your thinking and thought process. Well, The only thing that was difficult to believe is that you were writing just to me. The rest… anyone with your skills could drop everything, give it all to charity, retreat for a year and then come back and do it all again even better!
Doug, believe it or not I had a very good friend of mine who grew up rich, made a vast fortune as an adult, lost everything in the building moritorium that hit southern Delaware in the mid 80’s, and moved into a rented mobile home for several years. It took him several more years to get back on his feet and start making money in real estate again. He became very very wealthy again and was able to send his son to europe to study art. His son is now a world renowned artist and has art studios here and overseas. During his time at the bottom, once he was able to overcome his depression, he learned to live within his means and told me that he actually had more fun than he ever thought he could with so little money. He unfortunately passed away a couple months ago at the age of 53. He was different as a wealthy man the second time. He spent more time with friends and family, spent money on helping those less fortunate than us, and spent more time reflecting on his relationship with God. My point is, if this hadn’t been an April fools joke I would have applauded you and your choice to change directions for your life. I still do applaude you as this site has been and will continue to be a profitable venture for you. I would like to know if there are others out there who would be interested in forming a joint venture and pooling our talents so we are even more capable of making a crap load of money. Dear Doug,
I received all of your emails and I thought they were quite cute. I have not responded until now because I work fulltime for the government at a hospital and it takes most of my time. I’m also trying to trade in my car that’s on its last leg and no one will help me. I have in the past bought so much information, tapes, books, kits and I just got plain tired of chasing after my dream with all the materials that promise to help, I just could not take it anymore. My dream is to just be a property owner and help others. I have bad credit, no money down and lots of wonderful ideas. I need financing to get my dream off and running. I can’t explain the details of what specifically I want to do but it is worth while and it will certainly make money even though this market is horrific!! I’m not ignoring you I just need a little more personal attention than the average person to get started. Do you have an actual step by step plan of the first thing a person should do to get started?
