What would you do with a Million Dollars?

That’s right folks, I’m in Thailand right now! I just got here last week, and I’m having such a great time that I’ve decided to stay for the rest of the month. I’ve always wanted to visit the place, but what I imagined pales in comparison to what I am seeing. That’s the thing about dreams – even though they seem big and impossible, they’re often smaller than the actual thing.

When I was packing for my trip, I found a piece of paper that was a list of the things I would do when I had my first million dollars.  Can you believe that #1 was “pay off my light bill”? How pathetic is that? We never dream big enough. I think that’s because we’re taught from an early age that dreams don’t come true and that you should be realistic and blah, blah, blah. To that I say – B.S.! There, I called it. Do yourself a favor – Dream, and dream big, work hard to conquer your dreams, and never give up. I bet you will get what you want.

But you have to be specific! You have to KNOW exactly what you want so you can grab it when it passes you by. And I want to know what it is! Tell me right now, if I gave you one million dollars, what would you do with it? It could be absolutely anything. Use your imagination! Tell me your dream by leaving a comment below.

It’s so nice being able to travel around the world and make money while you do it! That’s a freedom that I never knew before I got started in real estate and fired my boss. I could never even dream of spending my days lounging on a beautiful tropical beach, and look at me now!

So if you don’t know what you would do with your first million dollars, take a minute to find out and share it with me below. And remember, be specific! You won’t get it until you know it.

If I had a million dollars, first i would help my family, to get back on their
feet, buy them a decent place to stay. Pay my mom mortgage off. She is 82 years old. Buy me a home, pay off all my bills. Give my church a portion of it. And then I would invest in some properties to help the low income famlies to have a decent place to live.

    Thank you
    God Bless you

i’d ask my wife to retire. i’d pay off my daughters college tuition and fund my son’s. pay off our mortgage. pay off my brothers mortgage and help family and friends purchase homes. I’d donate to the local parks and make sure they have uniforms for every team and every sport. Pay my Tithes and be a blessing to GOD’S House. 1st. I’d find someone that i don’t even know and bless them with an all inclusive getaway. Then ask my children if there’s any children they’ed like to bless? then we’ed go on vacation ourselves. and whatever’s left, we would invest in our retirement.

p.s. Thanks for reminding me that it’s not late to dream.

I would make several investments and then within 18 months I
would return your Million Dollars with interest. I could earn
enough to end up with enough to retire. I would not spend the money
on items that I do not need.
With the return of the funds, you could be a benevolent person again
    and repeat the process.

Without itemizing….help my disabled sister- by relieving all her debt. Spoil my kids -as they have sacrificed much over the past two years as I have tried to become successful at RE investing. Give genorously to two charities I believe in whole-heartedly… and last but not least see europe and parts of the great USA I haven’t been able to see and experience yet! Some toys…and of course money-making investments.

  17. Steve says:

I am a 50 year-old cancer survivor with a goal of walking across America in 2010 in an effort to raise money for the treatment of kids and their families stricken with cancer who cannot afford to get help, and to relieve the financial crisis cancer creates for so many families across the U.S. What make’s my walk different from the 200 + people that have made this journey in the last 100 years? I survived cancer by having my leg amputated at the hip. I propose to be the first to walk across the country on crutches.

How would I use your $1 Million? My plan is to raise one dollar for every American (about $310 Million) I would use the first part of your million to continue launching this project (websites, blogs, publicity, training, supplies on the road, etc.) and the rest as my contribution (our contribution really) to start the donations coming in. Turning $1 Million into $310 Million in less than two years seems like a pretty good investment don’t you think?

  18. Marie-Rose Henry says:

I will buy my preferred house and opening my business.

  19. Rick I says:

I’m a firefighter of 6 yrs. soon to be laid-off on or before years end, so What I would do with a million $$ is leave Indiana, buy a house in south Florida close to or on the beach and buy a sports bar/ pizza place so I could be my own boss and support my wife and 3 children……peaceful and happy!!!

  20. Daniel says:

I would not accept the million dollars, and just ask for a proof of funds letter to make it happen myself. I would share the benefits with you in return.
Once on my feet flipping residential and commercial properties, I will create a non-profit organization providing housing, food and counseling for homeless veterans. As a Marine Corps veteran pilot that experienced the homeless lifestyle for a 4 yr period, I would want to help others who served this country, and teach them how to succeed at this game also-then they might have a chance getting their head together and some sort of a personal life again. It’s the veterans that keep this country free-(legal systems and philosophies don’t matter without the freedom to execute)and the veterans deserve a piece of what others get under the blanket of freedom often taken for granted.

  21. Debra Berry says:

Doug, I will do one of three things, build a home for seniors named after my late mom, or open a salon for my daughter, and of course buy more properties.

  22. Debra Berry says:

I’m 53 years old I’ve been working since the age of fourteen, I will reather open my own business, being my own boss.

  23. Yasin says:

One million dollars can buy $ 5 million dollars real estate, I will keep reinvesting until i have enough money to buy prime commercial realestate that can generate good cash flow so, i can retire and trevel. good luck with your trip to thailand, been their many times, be care full come back home safe.

  24. Jessica says:

    hey Doug..

mmm let’s see . with a million dollars a would buy 1st my home. I would travel the world, but the most important one to me is to become a successful Real Estate investor… that way I can become financialy and independently “FREE”….Life would be more sweeter that way..

  25. Cynthia Mason says:

If I had 1 million dollars I would donate to several charities related to health and the needy. I would create an inner city youth program to help children learn entreprenual skills and have a program to help teens such as those who are pregnant or low income families in need. I would also focus on senior programs and those temporarily transitioning from lumbar bone surgeries to help supplement the care they need because in home nursing only lasts so long.

I would also a portion of the cash to enable me to grow it by investing it in a diversified real estate portfolio mix that focuses long and short term income producing ventures. I would create jobs and base opperations in various cities and create various companies up under the main one. I would also bring in experts to run up those other divisions and companies. I would create products and tools for investors and focus on doing things better. My dream is huge but I would say a cool million would make my project hot. But, I couldn’t do it all myself. It would be wise to bring in a team of wise business professionals with certain traits. This actually what I am telling you is something I really do want to do. But I have a tendency to dream much bigger than I could possibly do myself. I do not need to add that I will pay bills because naturally the dream will bring income for everyone involved and everything will be taken care of.

Who knows, perhaps I shall meet those wise partners sooner than later? Success is not created by one but with a team. Seeking the counsel of wise advisors or partners will bring forth the best results. I would be flat floored if someone gave me a million dollars though. I would be greatly in need of a solid team to help with the dream. It takes a lot of time and planning to put together a real estate empire and also have several other companies conjoined. Some people say I want to do too much but I just see a need and putting my heart into something makes me feel great. :-) Now I just need a map to show me the way….

Then i have already a couple of commericials properties that is paided off that i uses all of theses years to help all kinds of people without goverment nor state help where a lot of people is doing real good but never gave back. Hi Doug

Thank you for giving an oppurtunity to the people who are willing to
success. Like everyone i have dreams and desires too. Now if i have a
million dollars i would like to do several things with it. First of all i would like to invesment in my community where i live and that is to educate people, no matter what age group they come from.

second, invest on children with special needs because people in this world treat them different, even there are rules laws and regulations for them still it is not in place correctly because they make you realize every single time.

third, work with the people who are at the same position as i am; meaning that people who are willing to make changes for present and future. by doing this i will be giving it back to my country and people because by working together with these people tomorrow will be bright.

  29. Eriq says:

One of my favorite charities is ST Judes children hospital, they
have provided alot of help to famalies, that perhaps had no other
options for their child.I guess what im trying to say is that would be
my first priority.Next I would go accross ,the united states buying
classic cars to restore.I would spend lots of quality time with my
family.I would envolve my children,in the real estate investing
so they could pass the good fortune on to their children.

  31. Carolyn Swinney says:

There are several things that I would like to do that my heart aches to be able to do. My mom has developed alzheimers. My Dad has had to make alot of sacrifices and had to sell his pride and joy which was his pickup. To make a long story short I would like to buy a pickup for my dad, not a new one because his one hobby that he enjoys but gets to do very little of if any, is working on cars. Fixing and cleaning them. He can make em shine inside and out. I would have to tell my mom that it belong to me of coarse but it would be worth it to see a smile on my dads face.

I would also like to pay off my daughters college loans, she has worked so hard and trying to make her own way, it would make my day’s to be able to do that.

The other things that I would like to do is invest most of it in real estate to grow income for my future and my kids. Donate money and time to different organizations and my church. And of coarse like anybody else I would like to pay off my bills to make life a little easier, maybe even take a vacation. Make a recording of my sister and I singing that everybody wants us to do. Getting a new wardrobe for the entire family. Wow it would be totally awesome.

Thanks for the dream, Know to make it a reality, Ive gotta get busy. Just show me the way.

  32. Alice says:

If I had a million dollars. I am a christian woman, I would pay my Tithes/offering and buy me a new car, and give my children and grand kids some money and, invest to have more on and on, and share with my church family, and regular family, and friends and help or show them how I started and teach them so they can be wealth too.

  33. Alice says:

And, I forgot to say pay off all my bills. Put up for my children childrens, for college and more. I’ve been down to long. I just need a lift. Show me how to get going. God will Bless you!

  34. daniel says:

With one million dallors i first take a trip anywhere to south america maybe costa rica. Come back and start taking care of bussiness. Keep investing in real estate and helping those in need. I read one of the blogs of the young lady that was in a shalter. Help single parents with childern get into affordable homes. I was raised by a single parent, my dad. Buy all my childern their own home with no mortage, so all they have to do is pay the bills lol. Keep the Faith and keep enjoying your trips Doug.

  35. tom says:

Give 250k to as many people as i could save their house for..
invest the rest in real estate. As one who lost his home, i can
identify first hand with whats happening all over america…

  36. Hey Doug,
Wow, Thailand is looking nice this time of year… beautiful beach.

If I had a million, I would put most of it back into my my Houston-based commercial fire alarm business, so I could hire more people and put food on “their” table.

I love seeing the smiles on my employees faces on payday.

I would also send out a very special gift to every one of my existing customers as way to show appreciation for their business and partnerships.

I was hoping that the new government stimulus plan would help smaller businesses like mine by giving incentives in hiring more people and putting this nation back to work, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see what the future holds.

Investing in small businesses like yours and mine is what really boosts the economy, it doesn’t come from paying mortgage company debts or paying off Wall Street tycoons.

When you get back into town, look me up and I’ll buy you lunch, my friend.

  37. GERALD R says:

FIRST I WOULD GIVE 10% TO (GOD) INVEST IN REALESTATE,AND MY INVENTIONS! I WOULD TURN ONE MILLION IN TO A BILLION.

  38. The first thing I would do with one million dollars is to by an apartment, pay bills, shop a bit for myself and the kids. Put aside some for eldest for college or trust. I would thid for my two youngest too. Then if I have exttra, I would like to invest in properties.

  39. Romando says:

I would buy a big enough house for my family to live in,or enough room to visit, also make an effort to help some families i know are struggling in this time.My family and i would travel to places that we did not know was a part of earth, also we would get some fast cars,my sons like fast cars! I also would officially retire my wife!!

  40. Milton Vazquez says:

I would buy a lot of properties and rent them out to families who need a second chance that others will not give them. I would also buy a big building on a avenue and make it into a family eatery and video game spot that families could afford to come and enjoy themselves and get back to the way families use to be. I would also build a special home to accommodate my son who is a special needs child. A million dollars is not a lot of money, but with the right property investments i could turn it into a multimillions, and achieve my goals. oh yeah then after i’ve accomplished all of this i would start back with that first million dollars and say now what would i do with a million dollars. Then i’ll have the true answer.

  41. Hi Doug,
Of course I would do the usual 10% to God, buy a house here in NYC and pay of my Mom’s student loans (she’s worked hard ;) , but the most important thing i would do is take a risk and start my own Production Company in Theater, Film and in Video games with my brother. To be my own boss and hire myself to perform in my craft. Then take over Hollywood and Broadway!! Hey, you said dream big!! :)

  42. Lisa Coleman says:

My first priority would be to take my grandchildren to Disney World, a dream I made with their father (deceased) to take him and his brothers when they where younger. I would buy some property and rent them out to single/abuse mothers with a 24hr daycare they could obtain gainful employment without having to worry about child care
